In a five minute news story, CBS news broadcasted their findings after an “independent investigation” of Hunter Biden’s laptop. 769 days after the New York Post was censored for the information they published about the laptop, CBS correspondent Catherine Herridge confirmed that there was no evidence that the laptop had been “faked or tampered with.”
“CBS news has obtained its data not through a third-party source or political operative but directly from the source who told us they provided it to the FBI under subpoena,” Tony Dokoupil, CBS Mornings anchor said. “We commissioned an independent forensic review to determine its authenticity.”
Mark Lanterman, a former Secret Service computer crimes expert, led the investigation on the laptop. Lanterman confirmed the legitimacy of the files explaining that the accumulation of files over time follows the traditional use of a personal computer. Personal data and documents were found on the laptop as well such as a social security card and a voice mail from Joe Biden.
An email including some of Hunter’s business partners included a shorthand message which translates to “save 10% for Joe Biden.” Two sources have confirmed that the shorthand statement in the email refers to Joe Biden.
The laptop was first obtained by the FBI in 2019 when Hunter failed to pick up his laptop from a computer repair shop. After 90 days the shop’s owner, John Paul Mac Isaac, considered the laptop abandoned. CBS showed a photo of the bill for the repairs with Hunter’s name on it.
Mac Isaac reported the contents to the FBI and the computer was taken in for examination in December of 2019. In October of 2020, Mc Isaac shared the contents with the New York Post as well. However, Hunter’s lawyer Chris Clark told CBS that Mac Isaac nor the FBI had Hunter’s consent to share the data on the computer.
During the 2020 election Joe Biden claimed the laptop story was Russian propaganda. The Post found a document describing Joe Biden’s attendance at a business dinner with his son. Another guest at the dinner was a representative of Burisma, a Ukrainian gas company. Burisma was paying Hunter $1 million per year while Joe led Ukrainian policy under the Obama administration. The laptop also includes Hunter’s interactions with Russian billionaires and Chinese industries.
Republicans plan to move forward with investigations of the laptop.
CBS Mornings anchor Gayle King ended the belated report with a stoic message about paying bills.
“This could be a lesson to pay your bills, $85 would have changed everything had the bill been paid,” King said.
