Over the past month, the vaccination rate has recently declined, which has led many government officials and businesses to find creative ways such as giving away free donuts, beer, and sports tickets to encourage those who are hesitant to get the COVID-19 vaccine to get vaccinated.
During a press briefing on May 13, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio chomped on fries and a burger, announcing that New Yorkers would now be eligible for free food from the fast-food restaurant chain Shake Shack in exchange for getting vaccinated. Those who have already received their COVID-19 shots would be able to get free food at Shake Shack in May by simply showing proof of vaccination.
"I just want you to look at this and think about… again, some people love hamburgers, some don't. I really want to respect all ways of life, but if this is appealing to you, just think of this when you think of vaccination," with a fully stuffed gob, he continues: "Mmmm… vaccination. I'm getting a very good feeling about vaccination right at this moment."

Shake Shack isn't the only fast food industry working with government officials to encourage the COVID-19 jab. The fast-food chain McDonald's most recently partnered with the Biden Administration to promote the "We Can Do This" campaign, aiming to encourage people to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
Despite expanded eligibility for the COVID-19 vaccine, the U.S. vaccination rate is on the decline. A most recent online survey concluded that most Americans are hesitant about getting the COVID-19 vaccine.
There are many reasons as to why Americans are "vaccine-hesitant." For starters, the COVID-19 vaccines are not FDA approve. These vaccines have been in use since mid-December of last year under emergency use authorizations, known as EUAs. Vaccine manufacturers are exempted from liability should the vaccine/s cause real or perceived injuries to voluntary recipients. Instead of suing the vaccine manufacturer should the recipient suffer an adverse reaction to the vaccine, they would be suing the U.S. government. Compensation for victims of the COVID-19 vaccine injuries is limited, Health and Human Services ( HHS) are working on making it harder to get compensated should a recipient/s perceive any injuries that derive from the COVID vaccination.
On Thursday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ( CDC ) eased mask-wearing for fully vaccinated people that would allow them to stop wearing masks outdoors in crowds and most indoor settings.
In the White House Rose Garden, President Biden called the U.S. vaccination program a "historical logistical achievement."
The Biden administration used the CDC's guidance shift as a further incentive for vaccination.
"The rule is now simple: get vaccinated or wear a mask until you do."
"The choice is yours, tweeted President Biden.
On March 8, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC ) published their latest Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. The report concluded that 78% of people who had been hospitalized, needed a ventilator, or died from Covid-19 had been overweight or obese. Obesity is a risk factor for severe COVID-19 outcomes. Yet, government officials and businesses are working with fast-food chains to encourage Americans to take a rush vaccine instead of promoting a healthy lifestyle?
The question remains: Is it all really about your "health?"
